I started at dpa in the western Sydney suburb of Rhodes on July 15, 2016 – almost a year ago today.
So far, it’s been a fascinating experience, helping out and steering the overnight operations of Germany’s biggest press agency.
On our first days of ‘going live’ we had the utter confusion of the aborted 2016 military coup in Turkey to contend with, working together with our correspondents on the ground. I think, as it happened, not many of us realised that we would still be talking about the ramifications of that eventful night, one year later.
Since starting at dpa I’ve spent more hours than I would like explaining to people here Down Under what we actually do, suggesting that they have probably actually read us without even knowing it. It makes me realise that there is still a lot left to be done.
Thankfully the logo of dpa has been clear throughout – it’s in the top left hand corner – the FIRST hit on Google when you do a search, thankfully. At least Google knows what we are all about.
